Action News 5

is turning back the hands of time to the year 1948.

Harry S. Truman was President

James J. Pleasants, Jr. was Mayor of Memphis and WMC-TV made television history.

WMC signed on the air 64 years ago

on December 11, 1948 as the very first television station in the entire state of Tennessee.

Action News 5 was first to broadcast a television signal

into North Mississippi,West Tennessee, East Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel.

WMC-TV

has been on the air everyday since

The staff works everyday

to uphold the longtime motto: "First to Care, First to Serve."

In 1977

a fire damaged WMC-TV's building and sent the show to the parking lot.

Thee offices

were in a trailer connected to the main building.
