Photo Gallery | Downtown welcomes the new year by dropping 10-foot guitar at midnight
New Year’s Eve on Beale Street is just days away, and that means welcoming 2013 with the biggest party of 2012.
A 10-foot guitar will drop from from a 10-story scaffold at midnight December 31, and that's just a fraction of the fun.
The Hard Rock café will host 13 musical acts in addition to all the other live music offered at establishments along Beale.
Organizers said you won't find a celebration like this anywhere else.
"New York, they drop a ball, this is the birthplace of rock and roll. This is the home of the blues, we're gonna drop a 10-foot guitar from 100 feet in front of 50,000 or more partiers on Beale Street," said Julien Salley, Jr. from Hard Rock Café. Event details here.
Bar owners say they will aggressively be checking Id's and making sure those of age are drinking responsibly.
