Photo Gallery | Many take the 'plunge' for a good cause

Taking an outdoor swim may not have been on your to do list Saturday, but it was for a crowd at the annual Polar Bear Plunge and Chili Cookoff at Mud Island River Park.

The event raises money for Special Olympics of Greater Memphis.

"Well, you just think about how we're doing it for it's for the Special Olympians, that are great. I mean what else could we do that's better than jump in and enjoy the time for these Special Olympians?" said participant Don Petri.

Special Olympic Athletes were also at the event to show how they make unique contributions to the Mid-South community every day.

This is the 14th year for the annual Polar Bear Plunge.
