Officials confident Miss. river to stay open for barge traffic | Transportation

The Army Corps of Engineers is hoping to ease fears about the drought-starved Mississippi River.

Officials said they are confident they'll be able to keep the river open to barge traffic.

The Army Corps of Engineer says their crews are making "fantastic" progress clearing bedrock from this channel south of St. Louis.

The Coast Guard said an eventual shutdown is possible, but unlikely.
