Get Lost in the Mid-South Maze

(WMC-TV) - The Mid-South Maze is fun for fall, and each year we wait for the design to be unveiled.

This year, the 12th for the maize maze at the Agricenter, it is a spider web.

You can get lost beginning Friday, September 14, through Halloween. The maze is open Thursday and Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., Saturday from noon until 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 8:00 p.m.

It costs $7.00 for ages 13 and up, $5 for ages six through 12, and children five and under get in free.

And if you scare easily, do not forget the maze becomes haunted Fridays, Saturdays, and the last two Thursdays in October.

Admission is $10.00 those nights.

The Memphis Redbirds and St. Louis Cardinals have officially renewed their affiliation through the 2014 baseball season.

St. Louis General Manager John Mozeliak said "We are very pleased to have extended our relationship with the Redbirds organization and the city of Memphis for an additional two years. The Redbirds ball club and the Memphis fans have been tremendous supporters of the Cardinals organization for many years."

The walk begins at 9 a.m.

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

Allstate Tailgate Tour to stop in Memphis for Southern Heritage Classic

The Allstate Tailgate Tour, a unique and interactive fan experience visiting college football stadiums across the country, will make an appearance in Memphis before the Tennessee State Tigers take on the Jackson State Tigers in the annual Southern Heritage Classic on Saturday, September 8.

From creating signs in support of the Tigers to participating in games for a chance to win tailgate items, fans can take part in a variety of family-friendly activities at the Allstate Tailgate Tour. Fans can also take commemorative pictures of themselves to share instantly on social media.

At the tour, fans will also be invited to enter the “Allstate 60 Seconds of Mayhem Sweepstakes,” where two finalists will compete in a field goal kick competition at the Allstate Sugar Bowl to win a VIP trip to the 2013 BCS National Championship in Miami.

The Allstate Tailgate Tour will be open from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on September 8 at Lot 15 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Mid-South Food Bank hosts Miles for Meals 5k

(WMC-TV) - The Mid-South Food Bank is inviting runners and walkers to fight hunger at the Miles for Meals 5k, Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Overton Park. 

The event features both a 5k run and a two-mile fun run/walk.  The goal is to raise the equivalent of 65,000 meals to support Mid-South Food Bank's efforts to fight hunger through its partner food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth programs, senior programs and more in 31 Mid-South counties.

Entry fees are $25 per person or $20 per person for teams of 10 or more.  The entry fee includes a Miles for Meals 5k t-shirt, food and beverages and other goodies.  Runners and walkers are encouraged to collect pledges for additional meals.  One dollar equals two meals.  One mile equals 16 meals.  Anyone who completes the course will have donated 50 meals.  A group of 10 equals 400 meals.

ORTHOMEMPHIS, a division of MSK Group, P.C., kicks off their Friday Night Football Clinic this Friday, August 17 from 9 pm – 11 pm. This clinic is the only one of its kind and the destination for football players across the Midsouth. Our Fellowship Trained Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeons began this clinic to provide injured athletes with the highest quality orthopaedic care on game night. The clinic will be open during football season every Friday Night ending on November 9. The clinic allows athletes to begin their road to recovery and hopefully return to their sport before the end of the season.

The Sports Medicine Outreach Program at ORTHOMEMPHIS provides hands-on assistance to lessen the possibility of athletic trauma by providing certified athletic trainers (ATCs) and/or team physicians to our partners. Our partners include Christian Brothers High School (CBHS), Evangelical Christian School (ECS), St. George’s Independent School (SGIS), St. Agnes Academy (SAA), St. Dominic School (SDS), White Station High School, Collierville High School, Memphis Kickball League (MKL), Dynasty Women’s Football Team, and Greater Memphis Soccer Association (GMSA). These partnerships will allow athletes to optimize their sports performance through injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

During Football Season, you will find ORTHOMEMPHIS Drs. Krahn, Weiss, Deneka, Giel, and Dowling along with ORTHOMEMPHIS certified athletic trainers, Marty Scruggs, David Dabbs, Daniel Baker, Hannah Koraly, and John Michael Leppert on the sidelines taking care of players."We believe that fielding a team of sports medicine fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons and full time certified athletic trainers is the best approach to caring for athletes" said Randy Holcomb, MD, president and managing partner of ORTHOMEMPHIS.

The 35th Annual Elvis Week will start on Friday, August 10 and last through Saturday, August 18. As fans travel to the city to celebrate the legacy of Presley, the Memphis Redbirds are preparing to welcome them in rock ‘n’ roll fashion.
