St. Jude Half-Marathon recognized nationally

February's edition of Runner's World magazine is recognizing the Memphis St. Jude Half-Marathon as one of the best half-marathons in the country.

The experts at the magazine praised the scenic tour of Memphis during the race.  That tour includes Sun Studios, the National Civil Rights Museum, AutoZone Park, Beale Street, and the campus of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The article says that most runners participate in the race specifically to support the Hospital, and are often moved by the families and patients who line the course.

Zach Randolph named 2013 Western Conference All-Star

A high five goes out to Memphis Grizzlies' Forward Zach Randolph who was just named to the NBA All star team as a reserve.

Randolph leads the league in double doubles this season by far with 27.

Z-BO had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Grizzlies' big win over the Lakers.

This will be Randolph's second All-Star appearance in his career.

Zach made it for the first time in 2011.

The NBA All-Star Game is set for Feb. 17 at Houston, Texas.

The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes alive in an adult Greek class that begins on his national holiday today.

Have you ever thought of learning the Greek language and some Greek culture as well? You have a chance to tonight at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis. Retired Priest Father Nicholas Vieron is beginning his Adult Greek tonight in the church hall at Sam Cooper and Highland in Memphis.

Father Vieron has been teaching his adult greek class for 40 years and always begins on Martin Luther King Day. Vieron is one of a few white ministers left from the 1968 struggle who manifested efforts for social justice led by the late Rabbi James Wax.

It's a 14 week course that meets once a week at the church

The Memphis Grizzlies will be hosting their 11 th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Day on Monday, Jan. 21 when they play the Indiana Pacers at noon.

This year, NBA Hall of Famers Patrick Ewing, Elgin Baylor and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown will be honored for their contributions to civil and human rights.

Ewing, Baylor and Brown will be the recipients of the Eighth Annual National Civil Rights Sports Legacy Awards, presented by FedEx.

The award pays tribute to athletes who have made significant contributions to civil and human rights and who have laid the foundation for future leaders through their careers in sports in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Water skiers, wake boarders invited to 'freeze' for a good cause

(WMC-TV) – If you have thick skin, a passion for water skiing, and a sense of adventure – we have just the event for you.

Water skiers, wake boarders, and even barefoot skiers are welcome to brave the icy waters of the Mighty Mississippi on January 1 to help make a 13-year-old girl’s dream come true.

The Collierville Water Ski Club is hosting the 36th annual Ski Freeze event on New Year’s Day.  The event will raise money for The Dream Factory of Memphis, which grants dreams to children ages three to 18, who are diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses. 

For a $30 donation, you can cut through the wake of a boat provided by Memphis Boat Center, who will pull participants through the near-freezing Mississippi waters.

Money raised at this year’s event will be used to grant 13-year-old Haylie K’s dream.  Haylie is diagnosed with Complex Dysautonomia, an illness that causes dizziness, fainting spells, fatigue, nerve pain, and

Penny Hardaway recognized during Memphis Tigers' game

University of Memphis and NBA star Penny Hardaway was recognized for being voted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame during halftime at the Memphis Tigers' game Saturday.

The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame announced eleven inductees in October.
