Skating for St. Jude

Two Memphians will longboard across the United States to raise awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Darrian Balongie and Morgan Dossett leave May 17 and will first make a trip to Alabama racing the Chief Ladiga 188 mile skate challenge. They will then proceed to Massachusetts where they will skate 4,300 miles from Boston to San Diego.

Memphis Redbirds ticket sales to benefit Make-A-Wish kids

The Memphis Redbirds are teaming up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South to raise money to help make dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Fans who buy tickets for the Redbirds games on June 6, July 22, and August 17, can get $1 off their ticket.  In addition to the discount, $5 of what fans pay for the ticket will be donated to the local Make-A-Wish chapter.  The remainder of what is paid for the ticket will go to the local RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities) program, which teaches Memphis kids how to play baseball and form teams.

In the space of 41 days, some of the fastest runners in the Mid-South will have the opportunity to race for the M-Town Crown. Race directors of four evening races have united to create the M-Town Race Series.

“It’s a good idea,” said Bob Kirk, an attorney at the forty lawyer firm Farris Bobango that stepped up to become title sponsor the all new  running series.

Redbirds team up with Alzheimer's Association to raise awareness

 

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Redbirds are teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association to raise awareness about the disease that currently plagues more than 5 million Americans.

The "Alzheimer's Assocation Night with the Redbirds" will take place August 1.  The first pitch goes out at 7:05 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to wear purple to show support for those battling the disease, as well as the families affected by it.

Tickets to the game can be purchased for $15, $5 of which will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

Grizzlies forward becomes honorary duckmaster at Peabody Hotel

 

(WMC-TV) - Memphis Grizzlies forward Quincy Pondexter took on a new role Thursday as Honorary Duckmaster at The Peabody Hotel.
 
Pondexter helped to march the famous ducks from the fountain in the lobby to the elevator that takes them to their rooftop palace.
 

The Peabody Duck March is a tradition dating back to 1933.

Fans pumped over Memphis Grizzlies playoff tickets

Playoff tickets are now on sale for the Memphis Grizzlies. It has already been a record-setting year.

The Grizzlies won their 50th game of the season this week, which is a team best. Dates and times of home playoff games for the Grizzlies will not be announced until the regular season is over.

Fans on Twitter and Facebook shared their excitement of the ticket sales Saturday.
