New flavor hits Midtown in "Arepa & Salsa"

New flavor hits Midtown in "Arepa & Salsa"

Arepa & Salsa is a venezuelan restaurant new to midtown.  But you should not visit the new locale expecting chips and salsa, tacos or enchiladas.

The restaurant replaces "Burley's", which closed earlier this year.

It never quite recovered after a fire.

Arepa & Salsa is featured in the "Hungry Memphis" blog for our partners at the Memphis Flyer.

You can find more details about the venezuelan cuisine, prices, and an inside look at the experience at the link below.

Chefs entertain and teach great food

Some of Memphis' best known chefs are now teaching all of us regular folks how to make some of their signature dishes!

The classes are happening at Urban Workspace downtown.

The classes will be small, with a max of 8 students, all working on recipes together. Each class costs $49, and they will be held on weeknights and during the weekend.

On Thursday, October 4th at 6 p.m., Urban Workspace will hold an open house to introduce the classes.

There will be food for sampling, and the chefs will on hand for a meet-and-greet.

You can find out more in an article from our news partners at the Memphis Flyer here: http://www.memphisflyer.com/HungryMemphis/archives/2012/09/20/urban-workspace-introducing-cooking-classes

New downtown soulful sandwich shop goes back to school

New downtown soulful sandwich shop goes back to school

It started as another undecided lunch break. Our news team trio was riding around Downtown Memphis in search of food. LUNCHBOXeats was mentioned but not one of us had given it a try. As we pulled up to the restaurant, I must admit my hopes weren't high. I am not a fan of "trying" anything when I'm starving. As we entered, I immediately noticed that this was going to be an experience like no other. For starts, there were huge blackboards hanging at the counter, a projector display on the wall, a sectioned off library, and school tables lined with childhood games like Scrabble and Connect Four. As we sat down to order, I was baffled by the menu. Provided were oversized number 2 pencils and what looked to be a pop quiz. I later realized this was how I would place my order. Aha!
