Neighbors concerned about rodent traps at downtown apartments

Neighbors concerned about rodent traps at downtown apartments

(WMC-TV) - Residents of the Claridge House and the Renaissance Apartments recently discovered that two rodent traps have been placed in the alleyway behind the buildings.

Each building has an entrance/exit in the alleyway and many of the residents use those access doors to take out their dogs.

Residents contacted Action News 5 saying there had not been a significant rodent presence around the buildings, some even saying they had never seen a critter in the alley.  So why place the traps now? How will the traps affect foot traffic in the alley? Do they contain poison that could be dangerous to pets?

The apartment management responded saying that the traps have been placed ahead of the cold weather, to prevent any mice, rats, etc. from seeking refuge in the buildings when cold weather comes.

Countrywood Neighborhood Sale

Countrywood Neighborhood Sale

Every year, yard sale bargain hunters flock to Cordova, Tennessee for the annual Countrywood Neighborhood Sale sponsored by the Countrywood Neighborhood Association.

On Friday, September 22, the huge yard event will draw crowds from all over the Greater Memphis area and from neighboring states.

Last year the sale was a huge success.  More than 200 residents participated

Rain or shine, the participating vendors will sell their almost brand new or slightly used items from furniture to clothing and televisions to motorized vehicles to make a buck.  Not to mention the local economy benefited as people booked hotel rooms for a few days to stay and visit the grand city of Memphis to shop it’s local stores and dine in local restaurants.

Panda-rific! Despite controversy, Memphis Zoo impresses visitors

The Memphis Zoo recently found itself in the mouth of controversy after Memphis City Councilman Lee Harris highlighted in the news he thinks admission prices to get into the zoo are too expensive.

This week, Councilman Harris called for a review of the city's contract with the zoo and the zoo's prices, calling the facility "inaccessible" for people who can't afford admission. I, however, disagree.

Last year, my cousin and his best friend, who's become like one to me, made the trip from Louisiana up to Memphis to check out all the hot spots, especially the restaurants. One day during their visit we decided to go to the zoo, and I was especially excited because it was my first time going as well.

Non-profits around the country turned in community garden leadership programs and out of Tennessee, GrowMemphis was selected.

This is how it works :

GrowMemphis can win a share of $150,000 if you vote for the group at www.facebook.com/tomsofmaine now through October 9.

The "50 states for Good" program/contest seeks to uncover local nonprofit groups that address urgent community needs and engage volunteers to get the work done. Parking spaces to be social places next month

(WMC-TV) - Parking spaces aren't normally exciting. But for one day last year, Memphians could smash themselves silly on a roller derby rink or peruse a good book in a library and they could do it all in parking spots Downtown.

Next month, PARK(ing) Day will come back to Memphis for the second time.
