Wharton to honor mentors during awards program

Memphis mayor A C Wharton will speak at an event Saturday honoring people who mentor the city’s youth.

“Our city has a lot of things to be proud about and among them are all the people who invest their time in children through mentoring,” said Dr. Sheila Flemming-Hunter, of the Memphis CARES Mentoring Movement.

VA Medical Center to hold MLK Commemoration Ceremony

The VA Medical center wants you to join them as they celebrate their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Ceremony. 

The ceremony will be held this Friday, January 28, 2011 at noon in the theater of the VA Medical Center located on the second floor of the Administration Building at 1030 Jefferson Avenue in Memphis. 

The guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Gina M. Stewart, Senior Pastor of the Christ MB Church and Adjunct Professor of the Memphis Theological Seminary.

Haslam, his wife and Wharton delivered meals across the city as part of a national day of service.
