People

Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins and his wife Angie on behalf of Lionel Hollins Charities, along with Books from Birth, will donate 300 books to Sandy Hook Elementary survivors.

On Friday, Dec. 14, tragedy hit the nation with the shooting deaths of 20 children and 6 adults in Newtown, CT. D

riven by the tragic events, Coach Hollins and his wife wanted to reach out to the Newtown community and show their support.

The displaced students of Sandy Hook Elementary will resume classes after the winter break at Chalk Hill Elementary in a neighboring town.

The building has not been in use for some time and work is on-going to get it back into working form.

The school is currently a crime scene, and  its staff is limited in what they can transfer to the new school, including the school library.

Coach Hollins and his wife know the importance for these students to get back to a normal routine  and wanted to help supply the library with these books in time for the school’s reopening.

Lionel Hollins Charities is a channel that provides resources and meaningful relationships to students and their families.

LHC believes that when students receive guidance, encouragement and basic life skills, they are more likely to believe and overcome many obstacles while envisioning a world of new possibilities.
