What:               Children’s musical group Hot Peas ‘N Butter will perform for the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. In 2007, the group formed a partnership with St. Jude by writing a new theme song for the St. Jude fundraising program, Trike-A-Thon. The song, “Different Spokes for Different Folks” was featured on their fourth CD, “The Pod Squad”.

Thousands turn out for Elvis Presley race

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Elvis Presley was known for his dedication to local charities and his fans braved the heat Saturday to carry on that tradition.

Thousands of Elvis fans met at the gates of Graceland to kick off the 28th Annual Elvis Presley Run, Walk, Rock & Roll benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South.  Over 2,000 entrants from around the world joined in the family fun to raise money for UCP.

Action News 5's Ron Childers was the Master of Ceremonies for the event, one of the many celebrating Elvis Week 2010.

Organizers said the race was the only one that starts and ends at the gates of Graceland

Groundbreaking ceremony held for new Southwest Community College facility

Stakeholders braved the sweltering heat to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Southwest Tennessee Community College Nursing, Natural Sciences and, Biotechnology Building held on August 12.

The facility will be constructed on Southwest’s Union Avenue Campus in the downtown medical hub at 675 Union Avenue.

“It’s been a long time coming. We have needed this for so long,” said Mary Vines, head of the Department of Nursing for Southwest.

The festive day will also feature non-race activities including wall climbing, live music, food, door prizes and more.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee— The Memphis Grizzlies are inviting the talented youth of the Mid-South who have a passion for entertaining to take part in auditions for the Grizzlies Junior Dance Team on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Fogelman YMCA.

Prior to the audition, the Grizzlies are offering kids the chance to get a taste of what it would be like to be on the Grizzlies Junior Dance Team with a pre-audition clinic Saturday, Aug. 21 at the New Ballet Ensemble at 2157 York Ave. from 3-6 p.m.  For only $20, children who attend the clinic will be introduced to the same jazz and hip hop routines that will be used at the audition on Aug.
