Memphis Segway Tours, new way to cruise downtown | News
MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - It's a way for folks to tour downtown Memphis by sidewalk - without having to walk.
You can now cruise as a part of The Segway Tour, the tours began last Thursday and is already a huge hit
"We're pretty much booking up all our time slots," said Segway Inc. sales executive Deb Novak.
They're unlike any other tour of the city. With the wind in your hair, you're able to glide along landmarks where a bus can't go - like the river bluff.
"It's a sidewalk, you can't go there on a motor coach," said Novak.
The segway experience starts off at only $59 per person and begins in front of the Peabody Hotel, but before you can get started you have to go through a short training course.
"You have to be 14 or older and between 100-260 pounds. Everybody is required to wear a helmet and then like I said you have to go through our safety orientation," said Novak.
Also, all riders must sign a waiver before stepping aboard their Segway personal transporter.
The hour-and-a-half experience takes you onto Beale Street, pass the National Civil Rights Museum, over to the FedEx Forum, then back down Beale and over to South Main by the Orpheum.
Norvak said they're also hoping to add themed tours.
"Music, dining, we might do a special river tour. It's just a great way to see a city, you're covering a lot of area and staying cool while doing it - and people actually seek them out in different cities just because it's so much fun," she said.
Right now tours can be booked online and through the Peabody Hotel - you can click here to Memphis Segway's website.
