Library helps you keep tabs on electricity consumption

Memphis Light Gas and Water, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Memphis Public Library have teamed-up to offer two new programs to help Shelby County residents reduce energy consumption: Get EnergySmart @ Your Library and Kill-A-Watt Checkout.

Get EnergySmart @ Your Library is a two-hour workshop that imparts practical tips and offers hands-on instruction. Attendees leave Get EnergySmart sessions with a tote valued at $50 that includes gadgets and tools to complete simple do-it-yourself projects that will save money and energy.

FEMA agents to offer help at hardware stores

FEMA specialists set up information stations at area home improvement stores to offer rebuilding advice through next Monday.

The FEMA agents are currently working out of two Shelby County stores:

Home Depot at 1627 Poplar Avenue in Memphis
Lowe’s at 8300 Highway 64 in Bartlett

FEMA specialists are at Lowe's on North Perkins Road offering tips on how to protect your home from future disasters.

Specialists are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Monday, May 23, at 585 North Perkins Rd.

Wine deliveries bill passes in Tennessee

A Tennessee bill that would allow wine to be shipped to every home in the state is now up to the Governor.

The bill allows direct wine shipments from retailers to consumers -- even in cities that currently only allow liquor-by-the-drink sales.

Governor Bill Haslam is expected to sign the bill.

Farmers market comes to City Hall

If you’re downtown Thursday and have a hankering for some fresh produce, just swing by City Hall.

The Memphis Farmers Market has teamed up with Mayor A C Wharton and the City to host another installment of the City Hall Farmers Market.

The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside City Hall.

City giving gardeners free mulch

City of Memphis Public Works will provide free mulch for Memphis residents Friday, April 22 in observance of Earth Day.

Beginning at dawn, free mulch will be available in the Liberty Bowl parking lot, located on Hollywood, just south of Central. The mulch will be provided on a load-your-own, while-it-lasts, basis and residents must provide their own loading equipment and containers. Commercial businesses and non Memphis residents are not eligible.

The Tennessee Valley Authority and MLG and W are teaming up for an Energy Smart event, on Wednesday April 20 in celebration of Earth Day. The Workshop will take place at 11a.m. at the Central, Whitehaven, East Shelby, and Bartlett libraries. During the Energy Smart workshop you will learn more ways to conserve energy and save money.
