Summer Debate Institute Announced
When: July 19 - 23
Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM Daily
Where: University of Memphis
             Theatre and Communications Building
This program is offered free of charge to all MCS high school students.  Non-MCS high school students may attend for a fee of $300.00. 
During the program we will prepare the students to debate the national high-school policy debate topic for 2010-2011.  We will provide instruction, core files and supplies.  Students must bring their own lunch, or money to purchase lunch on campus.  Students are also responsible for their own transportation.
Pre-Registration is required. Registration forms are available on the website, www.memphisdebate.org and must be completed and sent to:

Trash pick up for July 4th weekend

Solid Waste Collection Schedule for Independence Day Holiday

City of Memphis government will observe the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 5th.  Therefore, residents of Memphis serviced by the City whose regular collection day is Monday will receive garbage and recycling collection on Tuesday, July 6th.  There will be little or no collection of yard debris and excess trash outside carts on Tuesday while crews concentrate on servicing Monday and Tuesday garbage carts only.   As with all holiday weeks, residents are reminded that collection of yard debris and excess trash may be limited all week due to volume and the short work week.  Normal service will resume the following week.
Homes serviced by City contractor All Star Waste Systems will receive regular garbage cart and recycling collection on Monday; however, Monday residents should be mindful there will be no collection

First Church patriotic celebration

Put on your red, white and blue and join the First Church congregation in the sanctuary for a special "Patriotic Celebration" on Sunday, July 4, at 9:00 a.m., 204 N. Second Street, Memphis, TN  38105.
 
What a privilege it is to be able to gather to honor our country’s 224th birthday and celebrate the freedom the United States of America affords us.
 
The First Church Choir, soloists and instrumentalists will bring  thrilling music.....some old, some new.  Audience participation will be encouraged.

Bring the whole family to St. Mary's to hear organist Scott Elsholz perform a concert of patriotic music, including settings of The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Yankee Doodle, a real country Hoe-Down, and the finale, Stars and Stripes Forever with Melissa Elsholz on the piccolo.  This concert is free and open to the public, so invite your friends and come whistle along!  Reception follows.

Seventy-six people to become American citizens in Independence Day ceremonies

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will administer the Oath of Allegiance to 76 candidates who will become American citizens during two naturalization ceremonies in honor of Independence Day.

The first ceremony will be held Friday, July 2 at the USCIS Memphis Field Office at 842 Virginia Run Cover at 2 p.m.  Fifty-three people from 23 countries will become US citizens.
