Run off that turkey and race for recovery

Run off that turkey and race for recovery

If turkey and all the trimmings expand your waistline this Thanksgiving, head for Overton Park on Saturday morning, November 24.

You can reduce your mid-section and at the same time, help an agency that serves as a path to recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

The 5th annual Memphis Recovery Centers 5K will start at 9 o’clock Saturday morning with day of race registration opening an hour earlier at 8 o’clock.

If you’d like to pre-register online, you can do so by clicking here.

MRC specializes in helping teenagers recover from drug and alcohol abuse.  The agency houses a school certified by the Tennessee Board of Education so that youngsters, who are in one of the MRC’s residential treatment centers, can stay in school.

MRC also treats adults of all ages and has done so since 1970.

Holiday carols take over the Peabody lobby

Holiday carols take over the Peabody lobby

Who wouldn't want to spend the holidays with this bunch?!

For the past few years, Action News 5 has hosted a "jingle mingle" of sorts at the legendary Peabody Hotel where the community is invited to meet our news team and celebrate the season.

Anna Marie Hartman, Justin Hanson, Kym Clark and some of Memphis' finest musicians (like Ms. Ruby Wilson featured above) serenade audiences with Christmas carols and holiday favorites.

We're planning to do it again this year - though no date has been announced - and we're still finalizing the lineup.

The Peabody Hotel staff and guests are gracious enough to let us take over their lobby for an hour to record our carols and then broadcast them at a later date.

Take a look at the lineup for this year's holiday choir concerts at the Peabody Hotel - and when we know when our "Jingle Mingle" will take place - we will add it to the list.

Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
