Bluff City goes 'Quacky' for Waterfowl Conference

Experts and researchers will flock to Memphis next week for the Ecology and Conservation of North American Waterfowl International Symposium from January 27 to the 31.

The conference, aimed at promoting the conservation of waterfowl and their habitats, will be held at the historic Peabody Hotel, home to the famous marching Peabody ducks.  Memphis-based Ducks Unlimited will be among the contributors at the conference.

"This symposium addresses the imperative within the waterfowl science community to expand our knowledge of the birds' basic biology and to build on this knowledge by opening new doors and planning for a strong future for waterfowl populations, their habitats and waterfowl supporters as well," said DU Chief Scientist Dale Humburg.

Civil Rights Museum, Food Bank to honor Dr. King's sacrifice through service

The National Civil Rights Museum will honor the leadership, vision, beliefs and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by inviting you to support the families who depend on the Mid-South Food Bank.

On January 21  visitors can bring canned good items and receive $1 off the discounted King Holiday museum admission. The canned goods will help stock the shelves of the food bank, and eventually serve the 20 percent of the population of Shelby County that's struggling with food insecurity,

"We are proud to be part of the National Civil Rights Museum's programs for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  The Museum has included us in the event for several years, resulting in hundreds of pounds of food to help feed hungry people in our community," said president & CEO of Mid-South Food Bank Estella Mayhue-Greer.
