City reaches agreement on new tax collection process | Community Spirit
The proposal made by Shelby County trustee David Lenior, regarding the collection of delinquent and current taxes for the city of Memphis was approved Tuesday by the City Council.
After several months of negotiations between Mayor A.C. Wharton’s administration and the Trustee’s Office, the proposal was approved. The measure should now go before the county commission for approval.
What this means for city taxpayers is that the process of tax collections will be streamlined. Many taxpayers have had to visit two different offices in the past to deal with certain property tax statements.
The new, streamlined, collections process will also aid in the collection of county-wide blight by focusing on tax collection on delinquent properties.
