(WMC-TV) - Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Cullen Jones was in Memphis Wednesday promoting water safety and education.
Action News 5 caught up with Jones at the Fogelman YMCA downtown where he splish-splashed with a number of young children.
Jones is on a six-city national tour designed to educate kids and their parents about the importance of learning how to swim. The urban community is of particular concern.
The CDC reports that 60-70 percent of African American and Hispanic children cannot swim. The "Make a Splash with Cullen Jones" tour is sponsored by Phillips 66 and the USA Swimming Foundation.
Jones also spoke with Action News 5's Jason Miles while in town. He said he plans to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio where he will attempt to bring home an individual gold medal. He won gold for his part in a relay during the London games.
