Renovation plans in place for crime-ridden park | Community Spirit
There are major plans to spruce-up a crime-ridden downtown Memphis park.
Victorian Village Incorporated is coordinating a proposed redevelopment of Morris Park, which sits along Poplar Avenue between Manassas and Orleans.
Nearby LeBonheur Children's Hospital is among a number of neighbors who pitched in for design work. The hospital hopes to create a better, brighter green-space for patient families.
The estimated cost of the redevelopment is $700,000.
"Morris Park, you know, it's the gateway to downtown," said Scott Blake with Victorian Village, Inc. "It's the gateway to this neighborhood ... We have big plans for what's going to happen in Morris Park."
More than 100 crimes were reported in Morris Park within just one month last year. Improved lighting and landscaping are among the possible solutions.
