New downtown soulful sandwich shop goes back to school | Business

It started as another undecided lunch break. Our news team trio was riding around Downtown Memphis in search of food. LUNCHBOXeats was mentioned but not one of us had given it a try. As we pulled up to the restaurant, I must admit my hopes weren't high. I am not a fan of "trying" anything when I'm starving. As we entered, I immediately noticed that this was going to be an experience like no other. For starts, there were huge blackboards hanging at the counter, a projector display on the wall, a sectioned off library, and school tables lined with childhood games like Scrabble and Connect Four. As we sat down to order, I was baffled by the menu. Provided were oversized number 2 pencils and what looked to be a pop quiz. I later realized this was how I would place my order. Aha! The theme was "school". It took me at least 10 minutes to recognize the name "LUNCHBOXeats" was all a part of the schoolhouse settings. I was impressed with the creativity. The soul food specials included: the Graduation Burger, Honor Roll Burrito, Principal's Office Link, and Homeroom Chicken and Grids. My plum lemonade was served in an oversized pickle jar which seemed a little out of theme but it was nonetheless delicious. The LUNCHBOXeats website boasts that they've got "mouth-watering sandwiches and we pride ourselves on our delicious, homemade desserts just like the ones out of Grand mama’s kitchen!". I must say that I enjoyed the food, service, and the lunch room experience.
