Memphis Music Hall of Fame to induct 25 legends | Arts & Culture
The Memphis Music Hall of Fame is inducting its first class with a roster of 25 music greats that spans generations, from rock 'n' roll to rap.The children of Otis Redding and Rufus Thomas are expected to pay tribute to their father.
And much more entertainment in store during Thursday's inaugural ceremony.
The list inductees include Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Memphis Minnie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Al Green, Hi Records producer Willie Mitchell, Roebuck "Pops" Staples, as part of the Staple Singers and jazz saxophonist George Coleman, and three six mafia.. .
The Hall of Fame will also induct blues guitarist B.B. King, Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, R&B singers Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes and Booker T. and the Mgs.
The hall has been in the works for about seven years. Many of the musicians have ties to the city's once-prominent production studios, including Stax Records, Sun Studio and Hi Records.
It will be housed at the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, located in the FedEx Forum.
Scheduled performers also include inductee Bobby Blue Bland, Luther Dickinson.
The cermony takes place at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m., and tickets range from $30 to $100.
