Keeping an eye on the I-40 Bridge

If you’re eager for crews to wrap up their work on the Interstate 40 Bridge over the Mississippi River, the Tennessee Department of Transportation has a few ways you can keep tabs on the project.

While it probably won’t make the work move along any faster, you can get updates on a website and on Twitter.

According to a press release, crews spent Tuesday and Wednesday “placing signs, restriping, and placing concrete barriers along the work zone to ensure the safety of the workers during the phase of installing of the large seismic bridge joints.”

Adams Ave. closed Saturday for Sept. 11 ceremony

Traffic will be closed Downtown as the Fire Museum holds a memorial to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Here are the details from the Fire Museum:

The Fire Museum of Memphis would like to inform residents and visitors that on the morning of Sept. 11, 2010, starting at 7:00 a.m. Adams Avenue will be closed between Third and Main Street. The closure will allow firefighters, paramedics and police officers to form a procession that will march to the Fire Museum's Memorial Wall in observance of the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center attacks. In a show of solidarity they will "Never Forget" the American heroes, 343 firefighters and 60 police officers that were killed in the rescue efforts.

Traffic on Hernando DeSoto Bridge down to one lane in both directions

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Mississippi River has become an even more daunting geographic obstacle for thousands of Mid-South motorists.

Beginning Tuesday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation closed all but one lane in each direction on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge carrying Interstate 40 traffic between Arkansas and Memphis.

According to resident engineer Fred Stephenson, the closure is part of the agency's decade-old effort to make the span earthquake-resistant.

"The New Madrid Fault, in 1811 and 1812, produced the largest earthquake ever recorded in the United State," Stephenson said Tuesday.

St. Jude marathon almost sold out

This year’s St. Jude marathon is already a success and not a single mile has been run.

Organizers say both the marathon and the half-marathon are completely sold out. In order to get a chance to run the full 26.2 mile race, you’ll have to commit to raising $500 for the hospital. But organizers say even these spots are expected to sell out quickly.

However, there are still some spots available for the Grizzlies House 5K and the St. Jude Family Race and Kids Marathon.

All four races will be held Dec. 4.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - He's part owner of Ground Zero Blues Club on Beale, and starred in the Shawshank Redemption, but now, one of Morgan Freeman's business partners is looking for her own redemption.

"I've been a victim of fraud, deception, coercion and I have been violated on a personal level," Natosha Huffstickler said Friday.

Huffstickler is a managing partner of the Ground Zero club on Beale Street.  She says other partners in the business, including Freeman, have failed to make good on their promises to help finance the club's former and current Memphis locations.

"To date I have put in a total of $325,000," she said. "I have not been paid a salary, nor have some of my other team members."
